Silver City Surfers NOW in Northfield
We are delighted to be running sessions on Thursday mornings from 11am – 1pm in Northfield’s Community Centre in Byron Square.  We have experienced Tutors to help you one to one with basic computing and we supply tea/coffee too.  So, if you live nearby, are over 55 years old and would like to learn about the internet, emailing, writing letters, or just want to know more, then pop in and see us or contact us.

Charity Shop

These are all photos from our recent stint in the George Street Charities Shop where, with help from a number of volunteers from Silver City Surfers and from the Aberdeen University students' Dirty Weekenders, we had a really successful week of fundraising.

Volunteer to learn with P7 pupils and the Silver City Surfers
If you live in the Muirfield area and are keen to learn basic computing skills, get involved in our project with the School by phoning or emailing the Silver City Surfers. The children have some great ideas about what makes a good computer tutor and they are keen to hone their skills on some willing volunteers.  The children have also been putting a lot of effort into making sure that their computer skills are up to date and they are now ready to share them with you!  So; if you'd like to learn how to email; search the internet; make a poster or get your photos onto the computer then get in touch to reserve your place on this free and informative event.  Tel. 07799 371 329.

We are looking for people who want to learn how to take photos and then print them.  The Pupils at Tullos Primary School are going to run a free short course with the Silver City Surfers in February.  Anyone interested in this, please feel free to contact us.

Radio SHMU with Rod the Radio and Mike the Mike!

ITea and Biscuits week aims to engage older people in technology

A week-long IT event is being held in Aberdeen to introduce technology to older people.

Age UK’s ITea and Biscuits Week runs from September 19-25 and Aberdeen-based charity Silver City Surfers is calling on people over the age of 55 who are interested in learning about technology to join them for a free IT taster session.

Now in its fourth year, ITea and Biscuits Week is an annual campaign which aims to reinforce that technology is increasingly important and can offer older people numerous benefits, from using email and the internet to keep in contact with loved ones more easily, to using digital cameras to capture special memories.

Drop-in sessions will take place at The Citadel, 28 Castle Street, from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday, September 21 and Friday, September 23, and are open to everyone - with a particular emphasis on those new to technology.

Other sessions will be held on Monday, September 19 at the STAR Flat, 14a Seaton Drive, from 11am to 1pm, with a follow-up event for those with their own laptop at Charles Michie's Coffee Shop from 2.30pm to 4pm on Monday, October 3.
