This preliminary report was drawn up at the request of Aberdeen Older People Consultation and Monitoring Group, an initiative supported by Aberdeen City Council, to aid discussion by the Group on the issue of alcohol and older people. Aileen Brown, a member of the Group, has also taken this issue to Aberdeen city Council’s Older People Advisory Group for discussion.
The report has been placed on the Silver City Surfers’ website for information, and to alert older people to the existence of the Consultation and Monitoring Group. This Group is open to anyone, and meets in Froghall Community Hall, at 1,30pm, on 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Charity Shop
These are all photos from our recent stint in the George Street Charities Shop where, with help from a number of volunteers from Silver City Surfers and from the Aberdeen University students' Dirty Weekenders, we had a really successful week of fundraising.

Job Vacancy - Co-ordinator The Co-ordinator post has now been filled - thank you to all who applied. We are pleased to welcome Christine Dunhill as our new coordinator and are very grateful to Barbara Cowie who is providing support as the outgoing coordinator.
A Fond Farewell to Barbara Cowie, Co-ordinator (In Post Jan 2009-Dec 2010)
We were very sorry indeed to say goodbye to Barbara, as her contribution during these two crucial years was immense: we have much to thank her for!
This was a time of consolidation and change; for example, the job remit changed at least twice! Barbara dealt with that situation with the same competence, adaptability and humour that she showed when working to consolidate our City Centre, Seaton and Tullos groups.
We, the volunteers, Committee members and users of the Silver City Surfers are grateful for her support, common sense advice and hard work, and wish her well for the future.

Charities Shop Update
The Silver City Surfers have just had a very successful week in the Charities Shop in George Street. Aberdeen City Council leased the shop to Silver City Surfers to allow us to raise funds to help us to keep our service going for those over 55. We had a lot of help from our volunteers and also from our learners. They donated goods and also spent a lot of time before the week organising and storing the goods and also in the shop during the week. All this hard work resulted in us making over £1800. We must also thank all the people who buy from the shop. Without them we would not have been so successful. A BIG THANK YOU!
